Beatriz San Martin

Beatriz is an IP specialist, with a focus on patents, SPCs and a passion for the life sciences sector complemented by her degree and PhD from the University of Cambridge specialising in genetics, cellular and molecular biology. 

Beatriz has significant experience litigating before the UK Courts and the Court of Justice of the European Union, having acted in a number of leading reported IP cases.  Beatriz has been working on several patent cases on behalf of Eli Lilly & Company including a preliminary reference to the Court of Justice of the European Union concerning the interpretation of the SPC Regulation and a case before the Court of Appeal.  She has also assisted on several medical device and medical instrumentation patent cases.   In addition to her dispute resolution practice, she advises on non-contentious matters including on IP due diligence and in the past year she has advised on several AIM IPOs concerning life sciences companies. 

Beatriz is a member of the Cellular Therapy and Regenerative Medicine Advisory Committee at the BIA and is Fieldfisher's representative at the IPLA.  She is also a member of AIPPI and EPLAW.  For the past seven years Beatriz has coordinated a series of IP lectures for the University of Cambridge Master in Bioscience Enterprise and she lectures on the course.  She regularly contributes articles to professional publications and is invited to speak at conferences.
